4Satisfied
By Nolan
My old laptop had burnt out after a few years of good use being a older model Toshiba Satellite. Looking for a decent replacement I found myself to this laptop due to the price. That being said, I feel that my purchase was more than worth it. Coming from Windows 7 to Windows 8 has been a learning curve to say the least but with the program Classic Shell and the fact that Windows 8 has a option to use a "Desktop" interface helped a great deal making my experience with Windows 8 a pretty easy transition.
If you're looking to buy this and downgrade to Windows 7, be careful. After all my research, it's possible the drivers will not work with Windows 7. That was the only reason I did not downgrade myself.

I will say that the sound is absolutely awful and the camera is less than satisfying. Both could have been done much much better. There is a flimsy feel to the laptop itself but isn't that bad. The keys on the keyboard when typing feel like they are very cheap and could break if I were to press too hard. I do not use the touch pad but instead a USB Mouse which works perfectly fine when you disable the touch pad. I never liked them and have always used either a wireless or wired mouse.

This model DOES come with a HDMI output and is fantastic when you hook it up to your HDTV watching youtube or other stuff.

I let my kid play World of Warcraft with this laptop and at the preset "Good" settings he can get anywhere from 20-40 fps on that game alone. Considering my old laptop that is a vast improvement and is playable to anyone looking for a cheap solution.
Be careful with the shipping method though. I chose the "Free Super Saver Shipping" and was shipped VIA Lasership. This laptop was at the facility which was only 20 miles from my house for 2 days. I was fed up and called to see if I would be able to pick it up instead of waiting since usually once the item is at the facility, I normally get the item that same day. They did however work with me, tracked down the package, and allowed me to pick it up myself with no issues.

Overall if you're just looking for something cheap to use for some light gaming or merely looking for something for school work and/or internet surfing, this is a good choice at the price. I have no qualms with it so far except with the sound and camera.

1Poor Customer Service!!
By Trials rider
I bought a Toshiba S855 Laptop in August for a computer class. It was used almost exclusively by myself and I transported it in a neoprene sleeve for protection. Apparently one of my daughters tried to insert a flashdrive into one of the USB ports upside down (like all of us have many times before). Apparently this damaged the USB port and since the one next to it is connected to it the second USB port also stopped working. Fortunately there is one other USB port of the opposite side of the laptop which still works. Since this laptop was only a few months old I sent it back to Toshiba for what I thought would be a warranty repair. Instead they said because the port had "physical damage" it was not covered but they would replace the motherboard which includes the USB ports for "only" $325! This was more than half of the cost of the entire laptop!!! I called them and said that simply inserting a flashdrive upside down should not have ruined the motherboard and it was my contention that perhaps that USB port was not solid to begin with because I've attempted to insert a flashdrive upside down countless times and never caused damage to other computers I've ever owned. I was then told my concerns were being forwarded to a case manager and that they would contact me in 3-5 business days. After a week I never heard anything so I called tech support again and once again I was told I would be contacted by a case manager in 3-5 business days. Another week went by and no word so I called back again and this time my call was actually forwarded to a case manager. I tried to explain politely that I felt perhaps the USB port was poorly soldered hence the premature failure. I told them there wasn't a scratch on the unit anywhere, no dents, no chips, no scratches, etc so obviously the laptop was not dropped or abused. I was told by the case manager plain and simply "physical damage, no coverage" and that was that. So then I asked who I speak to up the chain of command and was told I would need to research that myself because she had no idea who to contact next! She could not/would not offer a name, number, department or anything as to where I should go next! I spent 30 years in the military and I always knew who my boss was, who their boss was, and who their boss was! To be told "figure it out yourself" was unbelievable to hear. So I did the research online and got an address for corporate headquarters and again voiced my concerns (in a letter) and told them that yes, the USB port was pushed in but how could it do that with no obvious damage elsewhere on the unit? I asked was it not feasible that there was a weakened solder joint which caused the port to fail so easily? Today I got a letter from Toshiba and they are standing by their claim that there was "physical damage" so therefor Toshiba has no financial obligation to assist me with my claim.
So now I have a 5 month old laptop without a scratch on it but 2 of 3 non-working USB ports. Instead of paying Toshiba $325 to replace the motherboard I went to Walmart and bought a USB hub for $12 and now I can run 4 USB drives from the one remaining working port on this laptop. So, basically it was a cheap and easy fix for me but the principal of the thing is that Toshiba could not even consider that perhaps the USB port was weak to begin with. So instead of giving me the benefit of the doubt and fixing it thereby having a happy satisfied customer they totally blew me off. So, be warned, Toshiba, in my opinion does not stand behind their products. I will NEVER buy another Toshiba product again. If I had dropped the laptop and there was that sort of physical damage I could accept that it was my fault and should not be covered under warranty but for a motherboard to fail when a USB drive is inserted upside down is just not defendable.

4great in general
By Rodrigo
I received my Toshiba Satellite computer in record timing, long before suggested arrival date. I love the computer itself, but I hate
windows 8. I highly recommend if a person can to go with another windows program installed on your computer. Windows 8
was meant to be used on your touchpads and shouldn't have been put on a laptop or a desktop. Other than that, I am pleased with
my purchase and delivery.
